What is the u3a?
The u3a is a worldwide organisation. In the UK the Third Age Trust (TAT) is the national umbrella organisation for all the u3as and provides a wide range of support services to existing u3as including educational and administrative support. In addition, it helps to develop new u3as to raise the profile and increase awareness of the movement throughout the UK. You can learn more about the national organisation here and access the u3a radio podcasts and YouTube videos on the Social Media page.

Our u3a
Ross-on-Wye and District u3a has been active since 1992. We usually hold a general meeting, open to all members, at the Larruperz Centre on the third Monday of every month at 2:30 pm. A guest speaker is generally in attendance. A list of speakers and other events is available below. After the speaker, there is an opportunity to ask questions and catch up with friends. There is also a book stall, where books are recycled for a small cost.
Visitors will be made very welcome at our Monthly Meetings and are asked to give a voluntary donation of £2 (unless they join).
Apart from the monthly meetings, there are periodic outings to places of local interest or historic buildings. Details of these visits are announced at the monthly meetings and included in the events list below. There is an additional cost for these outings. Please note that no refunds will be given if cancellation is within 14 days of the outing unless you can find someone to take your place or there is no one on the waiting list.

Our focus is on peer-led learning. Our members volunteer their life skills and acquired knowledge to facilitate 'interest groups'. A member may be a 'learner' in one interest group and a 'leader' in another. Members take part in as many interest groups as they wish. We cover over 70 subjects (see Our Groups) with new ones being added frequently. Groups mostly have between 5 and 12 members, but there is no rule, and they meet in public venues like the Larruperz Community Centre and St Mary's Garden Community Hub as well as in members' homes.

The annual membership fee for April 2023-March 2024 is £16.00, reduced to £10 for those that join after 1 October. There are additional fees for some groups, depending on the costs of the activity. You can download the membership form from the Admin page here.
