Pickleball is a racquet (or Paddle) sport in which 2 or 4 players hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles similar to but larger than table tennis bats. It is played on a court smaller than half of a tennis court across a lower net until one side faults or the other side hits a winner. It can be played indoors or outdoors and was invented in the US as a children’s garden game. The lower bounce of the plastic ball, the non-volley zones, called “The Kitchen” near the net, and the underhand service give the game a dynamic pace.

Pickleball is a very accessible game, particularly suitable for older people, needing less formal coaching than tennis. It is super-sociable and great fun. The multi-directional movement and fresh air mean it is also good for overall fitness and wellbeing.

Pickleball is currently the fastest growing sport in the US and worldwide there are approximately 5 million players.
